Bio-based materials and bioenergy
Developing novel products that utilize the forest biomass as a renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable raw material with a near-zero carbon footprint is the key towards a sustainable bio-economy. Such green products will have a significant life-cycle advantage over fossil fuel-based products. The focus of our research is two folds: 1- advanced materials that are based on wood fibres, and 2- energy from forest biomass as well as solid wastes.
With the rapid reduction of clean water resources, wastewater treatment for reuse is growing rapidly in many industrial and developing countries. The focus of our research is to develop advanced high-rate technologies to remove chemical and microbial contamination of wastewater, including membrane separation, filtration, ultraviolet disinfection, and advanced oxidation.
The focus of this research program is to develop experimental techniques and mathematical models to examine the structure of materials at microscale and investigate the relationship between structure and properties.
