Chem Eng Student Group Wins CSChE Student Chapter Merit Award
During the 2011 Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE) Conference in October, the CSChE Student Chapter at U of T won the CSChE Student Chapter Merit Award that acknowledges strong initiative and originality in Student Chapter programming.
In 2011, U of T's CSChE Student Chapter spearheaded a number of events that made positive marks on Chem Eng students. Over the summer, the group hosted the Summer Student Symposium where students presented either their research projects or their perspective on chemical engineering education to professors and other students.
The Chapter also organized other events, which prepare students for professional life in fun and engaging ways. These events included PEY info sessions, professor-student mixers and plant tours. New initiatives were also introduced, including Chemical Engineering Week which took place in March - the National Engineering Month. During this fun-filled week, students were informed about the world of chemical engineering and the opportunities available to them. The week consisted of an industrial networking luncheon, graduate studies pub night, plant tours and lab tours.
In 2012, the Chapter plans to continue to provide a balanced program of events based on students' interests and needs.
