ERCO Worldwide Leaders of Tomorrow Award
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry is pleased to announce the creation of the ERCO Worldwide Leaders of Tomorrow Award, the result of the generous gift of ERCO Worldwide of $125,000.
The Department has a long and storied history with ERCO dating back to 1953 when ERCO first invested in research under the direction of Professor Howard Rapson. ERCO supported many research students in Professor Doug Reeve’s lab in the 1980s and 90s. ERCO has been a staunch supporter of the Pulp & Paper Centre beginning with its founding in 1987. In 2003 ERCO and the University of Toronto were jointly awarded an NSERC Synergy Award, the prestigious national award for university-industry cooperation.
The objective of the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) Awards is to recognize students who have shown the potential to become outstanding leaders. This potential may be demonstrated in a number of ways, including participation in student councils or clubs, community organizations, cultural groups, or athletics. Applicants must enumerate their service to others through volunteering or community work. Recipients should have the ability to inspire others to action and to excellence. Short-listed candidates will be asked to attend an interview with a Selection Committee.
The ERCO Worldwide LOT Award will have a value of approximately $5000 and will be given each year to a First Year student in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. The inaugural candidate will be announced at the Department Dinner March 16, 2012. Runners-up will also be recognized.
The ERCO Award is one of a suite of five LOT Awards available to full-time students in the Department.
