Kawaji Named Fellow of CAE

KawajiProfessor Masahiro Kawaji of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry has been named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE). The Academy, which was founded in 1987, is comprised of fellows elected by peers for their distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession.

Kawaji is a recognized leader in energy production, including the production of renewable energy, recovery of oil from the Alberta oil sands and improving efficiency and safety of boilers and nuclear reactors. He has previously been named a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In 2006, Kawaji was presented with the Engineering Medal for Research and Development by the Professional Engineers Ontario.

There are presently 297 active members, 111 emeritus members and three honourary members of the CAE. Kawaji will be formerly inducted during a ceremony on Monday July 13 in Calgary, Alberta.
