Department Ranked #1 in Canada, #14 in the World

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto has been ranked the number one chemical engineering department in Canada and 14th in the world according to the inaugural QS World University Rankings® for Chemical Engineering.

In comparison to other Canadian chemical engineering departments, McGill University was ranked 15th, the University of British Columbia was 46th, the University of Alberta and the University of Waterloo tied at 51st. MIT was ranked number one in the world amongst chemical engineering departments.

In the new QS World University Rankings by Subject, U of T Engineering led all Canadian universities, placing 10th in Computer Science & Information Systems, 13th in Electrical Engineering, 20th in Civil & Structural Engineering, and 31st in Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing among global universities.

The 2011 QS World University Rankings by Subject – Engineering & Technology are the first in a series of unique world university rankings that rate universities based on their subject. QS World University Rankings was launched in 2004, rating the world's top 500 universities based on citations per paper.
