HEQCO’s New Study Based on U of T Project

The Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario recently published a new study entitled, Structured feedback program helps students improve teamwork and collaboration skills.

The study examined an initiative at the University of Toronto – spearheaded by Professors Greg Evans and Doug Reeve, and their colleague Patricia Sheridan from the ILead team – that used a structured online feedback tool to help students in a large first-year engineering class self-assess and receive peer assessments on their teamwork skills.

The study found that the tool was effective at helping students understand their strengths and weaknesses, as opposed to open, unstructured feedback opportunities, which often only highlight what a student already does well.
