Research
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry is one of the largest chemical engineering departments in Canada, with about 30 faculty and 150 Doctoral stream graduate students.
With its long history, our Department continues to do research of a pure science or fundamental nature.
Our professors have established world-wide reputations in their fields for such work. Recently however, there has been a trend towards greater industrial interaction in research.
Many of our students now find themselves in close contact with industrial partners during their studies. In fact, some of our students do the majority of their experimental work in an industrial setting. Much of our research is funded by a single company or a consortium of companies, and the experience of dealing with industrial sponsors is invariably a positive one for the graduate students involved. Over the past seven years the Department of Chemical Engineering has won more than $5.5 million in research funds per year and that more than 120 companies have provided support for our work.
Research and teaching are the foundation of our Department. Please refer to our Research Clusters section to view current research areas.
A glance at the list of Faculty and Research Interests will reveal a wealth of opportunity for students to develop the skills and abilities needed for a vigorous career in their chosen field.
