Network/IT Support
The Department's Network Administrator (Dan Tomchyshyn) and Computer Support Specialist (Joanne McClintock) are located in WB260 and can be reached at 416-978-1144.
No job will be done prior to an Authorized Job Request Form being submitted outlining the nature of the problem.
Network Support: (Dan Tomchyshyn)(Department Base Infrastructure Service)
- Department’s network/server maintenance and expansion strategies
- Network user connection and interface within University and outside University
- Base connectivity of Ethernet to faculty, staff, and student offices and labs to Department network
- Baseline network security
- Secure building UTOR wireless access points
- Connectivity/maintenance of Administrative Systems to ROSI, FIS, SAP
- Automated backup system for administrative staff and faculty registered as users
- Preliminary setup of UTOR Email service for faculty and staff
- Maintenance of Department’s Email lists
- Network safety audit
- Department’s Intranet System for centralized central calendar, contact list, resource sharing, room bookings
- Building Security – maintenance and programming of swipe door locks
(Department Base Infrastructure Service)
- Data acquisition
- Network connectivity
(Billable to faculty member research account @ $50/hr Internal and $80 University Rate)
- Initial project consultation @ no charge (max 30 minutes)
- Wireless networking setup
- Hardware & software installs & maintenance, licensing (Matlab, Labview, etc.)
- Data acquisition, data analysis
- Instrument development and networking
- Note - will not do electrical repairs to computers or instruments. These repairs must be done by a qualified electrician.
(Department Base Infrastructure Service)
- Computer (PC/Mac) support - Provide training and support: including computer consultation, hardware & peripherals & software installs & maintenance, virus prevention, & installation of latest hardware/software patches for:
- Administrative staff
- Senior Lecturers
- UGrad/Grad Course Support
- UGrad Computer Lab Support (WB216)
- Media support:
- Hardware & software installs & maintenance of Department media projector/computers
- Assistance and training to faculty, staff and students on projector/computer setup (OSM classrooms are serviced by OSM only) and web/teleconferencing assistance for Department events.
- Maintenance of UG media computers/projectors. Assistance with setup of UG media computers/projectors is done by the Undergraduate Laboratory Technician (Gelareh Bankian-Tabrizi) only located in WB207.
- Department computer hardware/software audit
- Department Website/Wiki:
- Advise and consult with the External Relations Office as needed with Department website (WordPress)
- Maintain and keep up-to-date the Department Intranet (WIKI) including but not limited to:
- Update existing pages as needed
- Insert new pages as needed
- Document and update guidelines on software and hardware for end-users
- Purchasing and download information for software, hardware and peripherals
- Write and keep up-to-date general FAQs

- Provide UofT WordPress website software template and/or Dept Wiki software templates
- Provide login access as assigned by faculty member
- Provide training on how to use website/wiki software templates and maintain content
- Note: only UofT WordPress website software/templates and Dept Wiki software/templates are supported
- Media Support:
- Projector/computer setup and web/teleconferencing assistance for all research events
- Note: OSM classrooms are serviced by OSM only
