Financial Opportunities: Scholarships and Awards

U of T Engineering Admissions & In-Course Scholarships

Admissions Scholarships & Awards

All high school applicants to U of T Engineering are automatically considered for Faculty-specific admission scholarships when they apply. Applicants are considered for scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and extracurricular involvement as demonstrated in the Online Student Profile. Engineering applicants may also be considered for university-wide scholarships, for which a separate application is required. For more information, please visit the admissions website.

In-Course Scholarships & Awards (for current undergraduate students)

Current undergraduate students in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering (FASE) are automatically considered (annually) for U of T Engineering in-course scholarships and awards based on academic merit and details provided via your ePortfolio (unless otherwise indicated).

In-course scholarships have criteria based on academic achievement and merit, financial assistance, community involvement, and/or extra-curricular activities. Please ensure that your ePortfolio (in-course scholarships) is accurate and up-to-date to ensure accuracy and competitiveness for scholarships pertaining to financial aid, extra-curricular and/or community involvement criteria. Your academic performance will be assessed based on academic data contained within the University.

A full listing of scholarships and awards is available in the FASE website.

External & Other Scholarships and Awards

As part of its efforts to make research culture more inclusive and to address systemic barriers to participation, the Natural Sciences and Engineering and Research Council (NSERC) is providing increased opportunities for Black undergraduate students to apply for Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRAs). This effort builds upon the same goals to make research culture more inclusive and to address systemic barriers for Indigenous Undergraduate students through NSERC’s Indigenous Student USRA program.  The goal of the USRA program is to provide research experience that complements the degree program undergraduate students are pursuing, which may lead them to consider graduate studies careers in the field of natural sciences and engineering.  If you feel comfortable self-identifying as either Black or Indigenous, please make sure you select the appropriate field in form 202-Part I.

Please visit NSERC USRA for more information and the application forms.

If you have any questions, please contact ugrad.chemeng@utoronto.ca.

Additional Notes:

  • USRA is intended to be over and above the academic credits required for degree. Award holders should not receive academic credits for work done during the USRA work term.
  • Award holders may be enrolled in maximum of two courses (1.0 FCE) during the summer, with their supervisor’s permission. The awardee has an obligation for the duration of the award and should drop the course if the work for both becomes unmanageable.
  • A student may hold only one USRA per fiscal year and a maximum of three USRAs throughout their university career.
  • Students are responsible for finding their own supervisors (please see ChemE Faculty Members List). Please contact the supervisors directly to start the conversation.
